Donna Edna Shalala
UW–Madison Chancellor, 1988-1993
Donna Shalala was chancellor of UW–Madison from 1988 to 1993, and the first woman to serve in that role. She has also served as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, president of Hunter College from 1980 to 1987, and president of the University of Miami from 2001 to 2015. Shalala earned an AB degree in history from Western College for Women and a PhD from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
